The Virtual IAL-IPA ECR Meeting is a free, online event held some months before the in-person joint meeting of the International Association of Limnogeology (IAL) and the International Paleolimnology Association (IPA).
This meeting is designed especially for Early Career Researchers (ECRs) who may be unable, unsure, or still deciding whether to attend the in-person IAL-IPA joint meeting, and who are looking for a space to share their work, network, and engage with mud-loving researchers from around the world.
We would like to clarify that both meetings are complementary but independent events. One is a virtual meeting specifically designed for Early Career Researchers (ECRs), while the other will be held in person. Each event has its own timeline for pre-registration and abstract submission.
This initiative originated during the organization of the joint meeting in Bariloche, Argentina (2022) and was met with great enthusiasm. Encouraged by the positive response, a second ECR event was held prior to the joint meeting in Aix-les-Bains, France (2025) to promote inclusivity and support the career development of our ECRs in limnogeology and paleolimnology.
Primarily ECRs (MSc students, doctoral candidates, postdocs), but also mid- and advanced researchers who would like to support, and network with the ECR community.
A 2-3 day online ECR meeting, where each day includes 4-5 hours featuring: keynote speakers, short oral presentations by ECRs, and networking time. We do our best to accommodate participants from a wide range of time zones, so that everyone can take part. All sessions will be recorded and promptly uploaded to our YouTube channel.https://www.youtube.com/@ial-ipavirtual2025.
We expect to run a virtual ECR event before the next joint meeting in Kenya 2028 - sign up to the IAL mailing list to stay up to date with news.
