The International Association of Limnogeology is happy to announce our new award for Early Career Excellence in Limnogeology, named after Elizabeth Gierlowski-Kordesch. This award celebrates early-career researchers who use innovative techniques and make impactful advances within the diverse research field of limnogeology.
Beth Gierlowski-Kordesch led our association as President of the IAL Board for many years, until she passed away in 2016. Beth emphatically supported new student and early career members of the limnogeology community by welcoming them as friends, providing opportunities for success and involvement, and by helping to create lasting networks with colleagues. Within this community that Beth built, early career researchers in limnogeology have developed to become our leaders of today and into the future.
The deadline for nominations has now passed (April 18, 2025).
We ask the limnogeology community to encourage their mentees and colleagues to self-nominate for this award.
Self-nominations should include:
A brief cover letter that refers specifically to the stage of the career of the applicant;
A two-page application to describe the research program direction and objectives, summarize recent progress (with citations), and highlight past and future potential impact of the research program; and,
A CV.
Please submit these materials as a PDF attachment to an email to the International Association of Limnogeology at ialimnogeology@gmail.com by the application deadline. Please indicate the purpose of the email in the subject line.
The award recipient will be announced to the IPA-IAL community in a medal ceremony at the upcoming IPA-IAL joint symposium in Aix les Bains, France, October 2025. All applicants will be notified of the results within 1 month of the application deadline.
Awardees will be asked to present a talk in a plenary session at the joint meeting. The IAL will support attendance in person by contributing to travel expenses and waiving the registration fee.
